Successful Holiday Show!

I had a great Holiday Show, held as an Open Studio in our magic Connecticut home in the woods. Some of my best customers came out to visit, and share in refreshments and joy of the Season.

It's like a big Holiday Party, and I will be hosting one every year, probably during the first week-end of Dec. Gifts ranged from $10-$12 items of Magic Hat keychains & bookmarks, on up to the newest, creative art jewelry. Thanks to all who made the trip, and made the show a great success.

Holiday Open House

This week-end I'll be hosting a Holiday Open Studio at my place in the woods of Connecticut. New work will be highlighted along with many gift items. Sat & Sun, Dec. 13 & 14, 10-4. Pictured images are "Tribal Staffs".
Email me for directions.

Spirit House

An exquisite charoite stone suspends from a forged neck ring. I couldn't pass up this gorgeous purple specimen. Doing it justice was the trick. A faceted iolite hangs freely above it, echoing the blue purple color. Gold vermielle wire adds an accent of color to the stamped neckring.

Orient Express

Orient Express frames my Oriental Coin pieces, and embellishes them with Vermielle, brass, and fresh water pearls. 24k Gold accentuates the pieces themselves, highlighting the texture. The pendant is 2 3/4"long x 1 3/4" wide, with the earrings being 2" long x 1 1/4" wide.

Fossil Sand Dollar

Something about Fossil Sand Dollars is intriguing. That they resemble scrimshaw, an ancient map, or an engraving, draws me in to create one of a kind pieces. This one is surrounded by stamped, HP formed sterling, with pearl & citron accents on a forged neck ring.

Variation on a Theme: The Boat

Crossing Over is a variation on the Boat theme. This piece is stamped, formed in a hydraulic press, sterling, with faceted iolite briolettes shimmering like water. The boat has become such a powerful symbol for me on so many levels. It's a way to flow through life, as well as a symbol connecting other worlds. The blue-purples of the iolite are fascinating to me. They are also untreated, which is another draw.

The Garden

I bought this incredible piece of Chinese Turquoise in Santa Fe one summer. The flower shapes within it, drew me in to create tree like figures above, and toumaline bead blooms to echo the natural design of the turquoise. I hope I've done justice to the stone itself.

Art,Cycles,& R&R???

The Fine Furnishings & Fine Craft Show in Providence, RI, found itself neighbors to a Tattoo, Motorcycle, and loud Rock & Roll Convention, with thin walls separating the two!!!! The RICC event planner surely must know that the great fine artists who paid good money to exhibit, and they were a group of really top-of-their-field artists, must carry on conversations in order to sell the work. Throbbing music gave the artist's vocal cords a work out. The work available was outstanding, especially the jewelry and woodworking.

GREAT PHOTOGRAPHER!

Doug Foulkes never ceases to create beautiful images, that help me get into choice shows. He can be reached at 203-775-0496, http://www.douglasfoulke.com/. These are new images of "Spirit Boat", the pendant with the earrings. The mixed metals of NuGold Brass, Fine and Sterling Silver, create a warm framework for the amethyst and peridot stones.

GREAT PHOTOGRAPHER!

Doug Foulkes does a great job photographing jewelry. His expertise lies in shooting advertising layouts for catalogs & magazines, but he is branching out into jewelry, and I highly recommend his work. He's located in Ct, and can be reached at 203-775-0496. He does have a website, so google the man.

New England Color

We are surrounded by color!! The trees are brilliant as the air gets crisper, and the winds a bit raw. A gorgeous transition time!! Time to start the first fire for the season!!

NuGold With Sterling

NuGold is a brass alloy, also called Merlin's Gold, which contrasts nicely with sterling or fine silver. It solders like sterling, and has a warm glow.
Spirit Boat is a new piece, hot off the bench. Boats have always held a power of transition from this world to the Otherworld. Birds are the guardians, protectors. Something similar was created in Celtic art around 500BC. Another of my Winged Ones Series.

Ann Young, The Bird Lady of Altamonte Springs

A wonderful woman has passed to the other side. Ann Young, known as the Bird lady of Altamonte Springs, in Florida, was loved by many, an inspiration to all, and the savior to hundreds of baby birds. Read about her at www.marinadedave.wordpress.com.

Today I found a wild turkey feather left on my deck, and yesterday I completed the piece I thought should be called Thunderbird. But now I think it's more like the first in my "Winged Ones" series, and its name is "Spirit". Today I received an e-mail from a woman who had "stumbled" across my www.howlingmoonstudio.com site, telling me about Ann Young. Many syncronicities coming together..........don't you think?

New Work: Thunderbird

This is a new piece I've just completed with a gorgeous pink tourmaline on top, one of my Wheel of Life pieces in the center, and carved bone hanging at the bottom. Small pink & green tourmalines dangle from the top of the neck ring, like little stars over the majestic Thunderbird. Each piece names itself, and I just kept hearing "Thunderbird" for this one. It's about 4" long, on a forged neck ring. Now to make matching earrings!!

Forest was Alive

Yesterday, while Dave worked on rebuilding our deck that we discovered was built with untreated wood, out trotted 3 deer. One with antlers, one young female, and a spotted fawn prancing & leaping, all headed towards our apple trees. They weren't timid with us being right there, 20 feet away. They hung around, in & out of the forest, for the better part of the day. Then a yellow chested Marmot wandered out, eating his way over to our apples also. Cute, big like a woodchuck, with a black mask face, striped body, black furry tail. We did look this up in our Ct. animals resource. At the end of the day, with the garage doors open, an iridescent green hummingbird flew into the window area, and couldn't find the way out! He kept flying into the window. With some gentle guidance with a broom, we got him into a bucket, clamped a cardboard on the bottom, and took it far out into the yard. He laid there, and we thought maybe he had a heart attack or something, but finally saw him blink. After a few moments, he stood up, and flew off to live another day.

Wonderful Tapas Bar

While in Philly, Dave & I walked the historic district, and discovered THE MOST WONDERFUL TAPAS BAR ever!!! The atmosphere was dark wood, dim lights, candles, and fantastic aromas. This was Sunday evening, after the show. Amada, 217 Chestnut Street, 215-625-2450, www.amadarestaurant.com. We had the the greatest artichoke with perfectly melted manchengo cheese, skewers of roasted chicken with sweet peppers, roasted mushrooms with eggplant, and platter of cheeses and nuts antipasto, complimented with the smoothest Calatayund, Petit Verdot, Langa 2005. The staff, timing of each dish, presentation, and ambiance were superb. We can't wait return.

Source/Consciousness

It's interesting, but a letter from my Aunt, definitively stating the nationality of my paternal grandmother, has led me on a Odyssey. The map of 1910 Europe, is anything but definitive! Borders flow, nationalities changed from one village to another. Bottom line, every country has been overrun by many others. We have become truly a global race. We are our language, our beliefs, our traditions, our memories, plus what ever we want to be. We are all of it, and we are none of it. It's all another creation, a play we participate in for awhile. It's all choice.

"We've already entered the era of extreme transparency and given the widespread of technology, our clarity of vision can only expand. With the once shrouded world bathed in so much light, it would...'be fruitless to try to hamper how we look at the Earth from non sovereign space.' GeoEye VP Mark Brender, Discover Aug. 08

Baby racoons found the leftover bread!!

Philly Show

What an experience!! Met great artists and buyers, experienced an easy move in/out, and now comes the follow up with contacts, and filling orders. I've learned advertising is a must, and show specials (where items are grouped in collections for the buyers) go a long way toward making sales.

I buy my "green" silver and gold from Hoover & Strong (environmentally conscious processing!), with some product from Rio Grande and Fire Mountain Gems. Pioneer Gem Corporation, out of Auburn, Wa., provides some great gemstones with very competitive pricing. Another is Kingsley North Inc., in Michigan, for quality small stones.

Now to get orders filled, and work ready for upcoming Holiday shows. Just keep on Keepin On.
