I have to tell you - your article in ArtJewelry was wonderful! Do you know if it is possible to use the applied (paint/prismacolor) finishes to brass?
Getting color on brass is such a chore!!!

Thanks so much for your input. The key to everything is roughing up the surface of the metal. It does take a high shine off, but if you're coloring it, why not? I haven't tried brass. What about 'copper topper', a coating that lays copper on top of anything, then trying color? I haven't experimented with brass.

Is this a commercially available product? Also do you think that gesso would on a roughed up surface would work? Dang - I wish I had some gesso!

Gesso may chip off. Anything too thick on metal, may chip. Copper Topper can be found at
www.ModernOptions.com, a SanFrancisco based company. They also sell patinas. I'd love to know if it works. Good luck.
